Springfield shul hosts annual dinner

Congregation Israel of Springfield hosted its historic 50th annual dinner on March 25, marking a record-breaking evening in both attendance and participation.
The evening’s highest honor was given to Rav Chaim and Lea Marcus, whose dedication and leadership have been the foundation of CIS for more than two decades. With their commitment to Torah, chesed, and community engagement, they have transformed CIS into a vibrant and welcoming spiritual home. Rav Chaim’s Torah scholarship and guidance have enriched the lives of many members, while Lea’s empathy has left a strong foundation. Together, they have fostered unity in Springfield and the broader Jewish community.
Other CIS members were honored as well. Dr. Len Bielory earned the inaugural Keter Shem Tov award, a distinction given to people whose actions exemplify selflessness, goodness, and commitment to the community. As a longtime CIS member and renowned physician, he has demonstrated unwavering dedication to his shul and the medical community.
Sarah Lachs received the Aishet Chayil award, an honor recognizing a woman who exemplifies strength, wisdom, and dedication. She has a strong commitment to CIS and is involved in many communal initiatives.
Shmuel and Leora Babich were recognized with the Young Leadership award, celebrating their devotion to the future of the CIS community. The couple has worked to foster a sense of connection and enthusiasm among younger families and new members.
The Joseph Tammam Memorial Youth Community Service Scholarship award was given to Racheli Marcus for her exemplary character, strong Jewish values, and community commitment.
The evening included speeches and a video tribute. Congregation Israel extends its deepest gratitude to everyone who attended, participated in and supported this milestone event.
