Terrill Brenner
Terrill M. Brenner, 94, a lifelong New Brunswick resident, died March 7, 2018.
Mr. Brenner graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1940. He graduated from Duke University, where he was active in sports and his fraternity and played varsity lacrosse.
He served as an ensign in the U.S. Navy and then as a corporal in the U.S. Army, serving in the Philippines and Japan.
After his discharge from the service, he graduated from Rutgers University Law School in 1948. He began a distinguished career in law as a clerk in the law office of David T. Wilentz, a former state attorney general. A year later, he was admitted to the NJ Bar, and in 1959 was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. He then went on to practice law with his father and continued until 1998, when he became Of Counsel to the law firm of Kline & Gast in Edison. He also served as a municipal judge from 1980 to 1998 in Monroe Township and from 1986 to 1998 in New Brunswick.
He served as president of the local Jewish Community Center, Children’s Day Care Association, and United Fund of Central NJ; an Exalted Ruler of the New Brunswick lodge of the Elks No. 324; legal adviser to the New Brunswick Police and Fire Fighters; the president and subsequently the legal counsel for New Brunswick Board of Education; and legal adviser for St. Mary’s Coptic Church, where he was given an award for his service. Most recently, he was legal adviser and a board member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in New Brunswick. He was selected as Young Man of the Year in New Brunswick in 1955.
He participated in sports throughout his life and was active until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Adelaide; three sons, Philip, Peter, and Jeffrey; and a brother, Howard.
Services were held March 11 with arrangements by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick.
