On a recent stormy Sunday, 30 members of Wayne’s Temple Beth Tikvah toured Hinchcliffe Stadium in Paterson to see the newly refurbished home of Negro League Baseball. The first national historic landmark to honor baseball, the stadium is one of the last of the Negro League ballparks still standing.

Established in 1932, the stadium is next to the historic Great Falls of the Passaic River. Hinchliffe Stadium, saved from demolition, instead underwent a $100 million renovation. It now is the home of the minor league New Jersey Jackals and also the Negro Leagues museum. City and stadium officials hope to bring an MLB game there in the future.

Beth Tikvah was also among the sponsors of “Gospel at Hinchcliffe Stadium, an Antiviolence Concert” later that day. Temple Beth Tikvah and various Paterson churches been collaborating several times a year for services and special events.
