A winning combination
Competing against other state weeklies, New Jersey Jewish News earned five awards in the 2015 New Jersey Press Association Better Newspaper contest.
Staff writer Johanna Ginsberg won first place for special subject writing for her article on a new eruv and religious diversity at Princeton University.
Contributing writer Elaine Durbach won the first place award for arts and entertainment writing for her tribute to the late weaver and Judaica artist Ina Golub. Elaine also won third place in environmental, health, and science writing for an article about a cancer resources site created by Ariel Fixler, a former Springfield resident who died last March at age 32.
Senior graphic designer Michelle Petrillo won second place in the design category for front page layout for a cover design depicting Palestinian unrest in Israel.
Third-place awards went to staff writer Robert Wiener for arts and entertainment writing for his profile of local politician Pat Sebold and her late cousin, the poet Allen Ginsberg, and to editor-in-chief Andrew Silow-Carroll in the column writing category for two columns he wrote in 2015.
NJPA’s membership includes more than 165 community weeklies.
