Arleen Borden
Arleen Borden of Cranford died March 10, 2013. She also had lived in Newark and Elizabeth.
Ms. Borden worked for many years for Horizon Blue Cross, where she became president and then business manager of the Blue Cross Office and Professional Employees International Union, AFL/CIO, Local 32. After her retirement, she owned and operated “Second Hands,” a consignment shop in Rahway.
She was a graduate of Weequahic High School, Newark.
She was active in Democratic politics when she lived in Elizabeth and later an active member of the Cranford Democratic Club, marching in the annual Cranford Memorial Day Parade. She was also a longtime committeewoman in the Democratic Party, a poll worker assignment coordinator, Master Poll Worker, and president of the Wednesday Club at the Cranford Community Center. She enjoyed organizing monthly trips to casinos in Atlantic City.
Predeceased by her husband, Rocco Acquillino, she is survived by two brothers, Myron Borden and Dennis Borden; two nieces, Laurie Brekke and Suzanne Borden Occhiogrosso; two nephews, Aaron and Jared Borden; and a great-niece.
Services were held March 11 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
