Chabad of West Orange celebrates the community
Last month, Chabad of West Orange’s annual dinner celebrated the community. The evening’s honorees were Ari and Shari Katz, Fred and Nina Josephs, Morey Katzourin, and West Orange Police Chief Matthew Feula, who were celebrated for their kindness, leadership, and dedication to strengthen both Chabad of West Orange and the greater West Orange community.
Morey Katzourin’s talk was about what Chabad meant to him. He described one of the lowest points in his life, and how one Shabbat he walked into Chabad of West Orange and was welcomed with warmth, friendship, and a lack of judgment. He felt he found more than a synagogue and a community — it was a place where he belonged and his life began to change. He reconnected with his Judaism and found meaning, purpose, friendship, and hope. His story was the evening’s theme as it represented what Chabad of West Orange strives to be.
The Katzes spoke about finding deeper Jewish connection, Torah, purpose, and a personal relationship with God and Judaism through Chabad of West Orange. Chief Feula was recognized for his outstanding leadership and for the strong partnership between the West Orange police department and Chabad.
