Arthur Amster

Arthur Amster, 86, of Monroe Township died Dec. 6, 2011. Born in Newark, he resided in Colonia for 30 years before moving to Monroe in 1986.

Mr. Amster was the proprietor of Amster’s Tavern on West Market Street in Newark until 1974, and retired in 1987 as an insurance agent with Prudential Insurance Company of America.

He was educated at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

Predeceased by his first wife of 37 years, Doris Rochkind Amster, he is survived by his second wife of 20 years, Barbara Harris Amster; two sons, Michael of Olney, Md., and Daniel of Las Vegas; his daughter, Chari Roth of Livingston; and six grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 7 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lustgarten Foundation or Synagogue of the Suburban Torah Center, Livingston.
