Benjamin Kreitzberg

Freehold died June 26, 2017. A lifelong New Jersey resident, he grew up in Maplewood, was formerly of Livingston, and more recently lived in Monroe Township. 

Mr. Kreitzberg practiced real estate and business law for over 45 years.

He was a graduate of Columbia High School, Maplewood.

He graduated from University of Pennsylvania with honors and from Harvard Law School.

He served in the U.S. Navy. 

While at Penn, he was co-captain of the track team, garnering many individual and team honors. He helped lead the team to the 1950 Penn Relay Championship, winning the 100-yard Dash and the Individual Medley Relay. After graduation, he remained an avid track and field enthusiast for decades, officiating at track meets all over the country, including the Penn Relays, Princeton University track meets, the Millrose Games, and the 2000 U.S. Olympic tryouts.

He was the 2008 recipient of the J. Kenneth Doherty Officials Award from University of Pennsylvania and was recognized by Princeton University for more than 25 years of officiating service. In 2005, USA Track and Field awarded him the William Reid Award for his “unselfish contribution of time and effort” to the sport. 

Predeceased by his son, Danny, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Canter Kreitzberg; two daughters, Ellen Kreitzberg (Tom Hoglund) and Carol (Gerry) Connolly; a sister, Arlene Krane; and four grandchildren. 

Services were held June 29 with arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to Fredrick B.
