Elaine Pincus

Elaine Pincus (Bonda) of South Orange died Jan. 23, 2016. She was born and raised in Newark and moved to South Orange in 1961. 

An educator, Mrs. Pincus spent her career in the Newark school system, working as a teacher and guidance counselor, and later for many years at the Board of Education. After retiring, she volunteered for the state Division of Youth and Family Services.

She graduated from Weequahic High School in Newark at 16, and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from New York University. 

She was a lifelong member of Temple B’nai Abraham, Livingston, where she served as a trustee and on numerous committees. She also helped provide assistance to immigrants from the former Soviet Union and served on the board of the Jewish Community Housing Corporation.

Predeceased by her husband of almost 50 years, Robert, and a son, David, she is survived by two sons, Howard and Jonathan; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda; and four grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 27 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to David Pincus Memorial Scholarship for Screenwriters at the American Film Institute, 2021 N. Western Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90027.
