Federation urges donors to ‘answer the call’

The Jewish Federation of Monmouth County will hold the third in this year’s Community Call Days on Sunday, Nov. 16, when volunteers will gather at the philanthropy’s Holmdel offices to solicit donations from prospective supporters.

Joe Hollander, the federation’s board chair and campaign vice president, called the four-hour phonathon a “critical activity” for fund-raising and community interaction. 

“This is an opportunity for board members and staff and community members to have direct contact with donors,” Hollander said. “It provides a chance to say thank you for generosity in the past and, at the same time, to stress the need for continued support. 

“The donors make it possible for federation to offer vital financial aid to scores of worthwhile local programs and organizations, as well as in Israel and throughout the world.”

Community members are being asked to show their support in two ways, said director of development Elena Herskowitz, “first by answering the call on Nov. 16 and giving generously, and also by volunteering with others making phone calls to raise the critical dollars needed.” Volunteers are invited to come to the federation office between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. 

The multiple Call Day format was introduced in 2013, after years of concentrating all solicitations and other programming into a single Super Sunday event. The change was made to relieve pressure on staff and volunteers, as well as to improve cash flow, according to Hollander.
