Hand in Hand organization held its annual Tribute Dinner
IN LATE JUNE, Hand in Hand, an organization that sponsors recreational and outreach programs for children with special needs, held its annual Tribute Dinner at the Two River Theater in Red Bank.
Featuring a buffet dinner and entertainment by comedian Elon Gold, the evening honored philanthropist Jeffries Shein and the teenagers who volunteer for Hand in Hand.
“By linking teen volunteers with special needs children, Hand in Hand teaches the value of giving, and encourages an uplifting community support system,” said Rabbi Laibel Schapiro, director of Chabad of the Shore, which oversees the Hand in Hand program. (Chabad of the Shore is affiliated with Chabad of Central New Jersey.)
Eric Scheer of Ocean spoke about the impact of his volunteer experience. He was partnered with a child named Josh. “I have learned what it means to be a both a good friend and mentor,” Eric said. “Once a week, I have the chance to escape the stress of school, and have fun and meaningful times with Josh.”
“It is inspiring to see the amazing effect these teenagers have on the children —serving as mentors, role models, and best of pals,” said Shein. “These values of selflessly giving, sharing, and changing the lives of their special friends will have an everlasting effect. As our future leaders, these teens show us that our community has a bright tomorrow.”
