Hilbert Fefferman

Hilbert Fefferman, 99, of Maplewood died Nov. 7, 2012. Born in New York City, he resided in Bethesda, Md., for most of his life before moving to Maplewood four years ago.

Mr. Fefferman was the chief legislative attorney for the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, DC, from 1941 to 1972, serving under several presidential administrations. He was also a visiting professor of city planning at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and special counsel for Fannie Mae, Washington.

He received his undergraduate degree from New York University and his JD from Harvard University.

He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II.

Predeceased by his wife, Helen (Relkin), in 2009, he is survived by a brother-in-law, Marvin Relkin of Ocean, and two nieces, Ellen Relkin of Maplewood and Abbie Relkin of Dobbs Ferry, NY.
