Irving Holt

Irving Holt, 99, of Freehold died Oct. 16, 2019. Born in Szczercow, Poland, he lived through the Holocaust, surviving nine different camps from 1939 until liberation, by U.S. Army forces, from Dachau in April 1945. He immigrated to the United States in 1946, living in Newark, Hillside, and Springfield and Lauderhill, Lake Worth, and Palm Beach, Fla., before moving to Freehold in 2011.

Mr. Holt was a barber who owned the Circle Barber Shop, initially on Chancellor Avenue in Newark and then on Mountain Avenue in Springfield.

He was a member of Sinai Congregation in Hillside and Temple Beth Tikvah in Lake Worth.

Predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Jenny, in 2016, he is survived by his daughter, Dot (Frank) Cheriff of Monroe Township; his son, Allan (Shelley) of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 20 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan. Memorial contributions may be made to United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington.
