Joseph Cooperstein
Joseph Melvin Cooperstein, 77, a longtime resident of Edison and Boynton Beach, Fla., died Dec. 19, 2014. He was born in Brooklyn.
Following a long career in commercial real estate, Mr. Cooperman acquired and built Permark Inc., a medical device company, which he ran as president until the sale of the company when he retired in 2004.
He graduated from Jefferson High School at age 15 and then attended college.
He entered the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged four years later.
He was a longstanding member of the Republican Party and the Chamber of Commerce.
In 2013, he published his first novel, One Way Do Not Enter.
A recipient of a kidney transplant in 1999, he became an ardent supporter and participant in the Polycystic Kidney Foundation and the Transplant Game of America.
He was a longstanding member of Temple Emanu-El, Edison.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gale “Goldie” (Kupersmith); three daughters, Robyn Cooperstein (Ralph) Del Negro; Suzanne Cooperstein (Richard) Gottuso, and Stephanie Cooperstein Matut; and seven grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 21 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels of Maplewood. Memorial contributions may be made to Polycystic Kidney Foundation or Temple Emanu-El.
