Leah Janus, 104, of Verona died Oct. 31, 2019. Formerly of Atlanta, she moved to Verona in 2007.
Before raising her family, Mrs. Janus was the head buyer for children’s clothing at the local Macy’s affiliate, Davison Paxon, in Atlanta.
She was active in many organizations, including the Conference of Christians and Jews; she was a founding member of the Brandeis University Women’s Committee and held leadership roles in the Zionist Organization of America, Hadassah, and National Council of Jewish Women. For several years she served as president of the Overseas Education Fund of the League of Women Voters, as well as of her local chapter. Before leaving Atlanta, she was selected to serve on the city’s Ethics Committee. She was a member of Congregation Agudath Israel in Caldwell.
Predeceased by her husband, Sidney, she is survived by two sons, Micah of Fairhope, Ala., and Barry of Jersey City; and her daughter, Raizi Shoop of Calico Center, N.Y.
Services were held Nov. 6 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels of Cedar Grove.
