Leonard Goldman

Leonard B. Goldman, 89, of Edison died Sept. 2, 2014. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Woodbridge for 12 years and Scotch Plains for 40 years before moving to Edison 10 years ago.

Mr. Goldman was chief design and construction engineer for Hess Oil in Perth Amboy until 1960. He then was the founder of the consulting engineering firms Leonard Engineering, Inc.; Environics, Inc.; and Lenel Development, LLC. He was a pioneer in the design of major petroleum storage and handling terminals, marine docking facilities, and industrial fire protection. His companies also provided environmental engineering and remediation services.

He graduated from Cooper Union with a degree in mechanical engineering and took courses toward an MBA degree from New York University.

He was a veteran, having served in the Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

While serving as a member of the board of directors at the Jewish Community Center of Central New Jersey, he was influential in purchasing its present location in Scotch Plains. He was a member of the Raritan Yacht Club for over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Elinor; two sons, Eric (Susan) and Kenneth; his daughter, Linda; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 5 with arrangements by Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Inc., Edison.
