Local author launches children’s book

Susan Silverstein -Kaufman has written a new children’s book, “Louis Learns to Listen NOT.” The book is about a mischievous little boy who travels to different states and countries and gets into mischief wherever he goes.

Ms. Silverstein -Kaufman, lovingly known as Bubbe by her grandchildren, was a school administrator in Mountain Lakes in Morris County and an educational consultant for CBS News. She’s also a life member of Hadassah.

She and her husband, Joel, live in Fort Lee and Wellington, Fla. They are members of Temple Emanuel of the Pascack Valley in Woodcliff Lake. Her stepson, Craig Kaufman of Woodcliff Lake, was on the board of directors at Temple Emanuel, and he, his wife, and their three young daughters are active members. Ms. Kaufman’s son, Jason Silverstein, who grew up in Pompton Plains and now lives in Toronto, was a 2001 graduate of Solomon Schechter High School in West Orange. At the time, the family belonged to the Jewish Congregation of Kinnelon.

“The educational and humorous book began as a labor of love for my grandchildren and they designed the characters and fact-checked every page,” Ms. Kaufman said

She’s set to be a keynote speaker at fall events, including book signings, and a portion of the profits benefitting the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County. She also will do readings at schools.
