Lowering the bar
Andrew Silow-Carroll’s column is the first page I turn to when I receive the newspaper. I have been a fan of his warmth, his articulate turn of phrase, his sensitivity for a long time.
But I must express my sadness on reading ‘’Brooklyn rules’’ (June 20). This particular column seems to endorse a watered down, universalistic Judaism — the Judaism of tikun olam to the exclusion of the particulars of Jewish faith and ritual.
I want to add my voice to the others who responded to the column on the NJJN website to convey my disappointment that a person in a position of influence favors a Judaism that, in lowering the bar so that all may enter, is in effect rendering it so low as to be nonexistent.
