Marcia Gabbe

Marcia M. Gabbe, 96, of Millburn died June 19, 2014. Born in Newark, she lived in Millburn since 1956. 

Mrs. Gabbe was a business teacher at Shabazz High School in Newark for 31 years before retiring in 1979. 

She earned a BS from New York University in business education in 1940, and was a member of the Delta Eta Phi sorority of Newark. 

A volunteer at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, she was also a life member of Hadassah of Millburn and Short Hills and a member of National Council of Jewish Women; the Intergenerational Committee of Millburn; B’nai B’rith Women of Millburn and Short Hills, of which she was a charter member; AARP; the Board of Seniors of JCC MetroWest in West Orange; Essex County Retired Teachers Association; and Temple B’nai Abraham of Livingston and the board of its sisterhood. She was also a volunteer at Solomon Schechter Day School.

Predeceased by her husband, Charles P., she is survived by her son, Steven (Pat) of Bexley, Ohio; her daughter, Maxine Breland of Placitas, NM; a sister, Lilyan Feinman of West Orange; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. 

Services were held June 22 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah.
