Martin Siegel

Martin Siegel, 90, of Bloomfield died May 20, 2011. He was born in New York City and raised in West New York.

A graduate of Temple University School of Dentistry, Dr. Siegel practiced dentistry in Bloomfield for more than 50 years. He was also an executive vice president at Andresen & Co. An award-winning sculptor, he sat on the stage at Lincoln Center in New York during rehearsals and sculpted a bust of Leonard Bernstein. He was commissioned to do a bust of Jimmy Doolittle, which is housed at the Teterboro Airport Museum. The essay and portrait of his commissioned bust of Christopher Columbus, now housed at St. Michael’s Hospital, Newark, were accepted into the archives of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

He served as a captain in the U.S. Army in Japan after World War II.

He was a board member of Temple B’nai Zion (now Temple Ner Tamid), Bloomfield, organized Bloomfield town meetings, and hosted his own local cable television show.

Predeceased by his daughter, Terry, and his son, Bart, he is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma; two daughters, Jean and Barbara, both of Bloomfield; a son, John of Bloomfield; and three grandchildren.

Services were held May 24 with arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chesed Committee of Temple Ner Tamid or the Bloomfield chapter of Hadassah.
