Miriam Tucker

Miriam Tucker (Gold), 88, died Oct. 16, 2012. A longtime Bayonne and Belmar resident, she spent most of her life living in New Jersey with her husband of 67 years, Herbert, who died last August, moving to Jersey City after World War II. She also had a home in Boca Raton, Fla.

Mrs. Tucker assisted her husband Herbert and his father with the day-to-day operation of their wholesale distribution business, Chas. S. Goldberg Hardware, which would later become Goldberg Plumbing Supply in Bayonne and which would grow to three locations, including Morris Plains and Edison. Later changed to General Plumbing Supply, the company has grown to 13 New Jersey locations under the management of their son, Bruce, and fourth-generation family members.

She attended Douglass College in New Brunswick on a full scholastic scholarship.

A lifelong member of Temple Emanu-El in Bayonne, she was very connected to the local Jewish community. She was a Lion of Judah for United Jewish Appeal and a strong supporter of its Major Gifts division, the Bayonne JCC, Temple Emanu-El, and the Hebrew Home in Jersey City. She was also a donor for Democratic causes and women candidates.

She is survived by two daughters, Darryl Ebner of Lake Forrest, Ill., and Nancy Freedman of Fairfield, Conn.; her son, Bruce of Short Hills; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 19 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., 17th floor, Chicago, IL 60601.
