Myles Kranzler
Myles “Mike” M. Kranzler, 85, of Skillman died June 4, 2014. He was born in Newark.
After a career as chief engineer at Applied Science Corporation and chief operations manager at Fifth Dimension, Mr. Kranzler and several colleagues founded Base 10 Systems in 1966. He became president and CEO, holding the position for 32 years. Under his leadership, Base 10 built a reputation as an avionics and weapons control system supplier for military aircraft, which were sold to NATO countries. He won a contract in 1976 to supply Tornado fighter jets with telemetry equipment, which sustained the company for some years after. Base 10 went public on the NASDAQ in 1967, and remained listed on the exchange until after his retirement in 1998.
He graduated from Weequahic High School in Newark in 1945 and earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University in 1949 and his master’s degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1951.
He served his country in the Korean War as an officer in the Signal Corps, attaining the rank of first lieutenant, and was discharged with honors in late 1952.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mildred (Borkan); two sons, Peter and David; two daughters, Lisa and Laura; and nine grandchildren.
Services were held June 8 with arrangements by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Poverty Law Center.
