Philip Dunsker

Philip W. Dunsker, 82, of Short Hills died Sept. 11, 2015. Born and raised in Rochester, NY, he lived in Maplewood and South Orange for 25 years before moving to Short Hills in 1991. He also had spent winters in Long Boat Key, Fla.

Mr. Dunsker worked for Bamberger’s in Newark, and later returned to Rochester to open one of the first retail discount clothing stores in the country. He later went to work for Garan, Inc. for 30 years, rising to the level of vice president of sales. 

He earned his BA in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University in 1955. 

After his retirement, he devoted time to volunteer activities, serving as a friendly visitor at Daughters of Israel in West Orange, coaching girls’ soccer and softball, and serving as cochair of the Domestic Violence Crisis Intervention Team of Millburn. He attended regular Talmud classes and was a member of Temple B’nai Abraham in Livingston for 51 years.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marcia; three daughters, Cheryl (David) Bickett, Bonnie Anthony, and Miriam (Michael) Brod; and seven granddaughters. 

Services were held Sept. 13 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Foundation Fighting Blindness.
