Philip Levine

Philip Levine, 98, a former resident of Millburn and Hillside, died Oct. 24, 2019.

Mr. Levine owned Electro Carpet Cleaners.

He was a 1942 graduate of New York University.

He received numerous medals in World War II, including the Purple Heart.

He played violin professionally with orchestras such as the NJ Symphony and at other venues, including the Paper Mill Playhouse and PNC Bank Arts Center. In 2011 he was named “Man of the Year” at Congregation B’nai Israel of Millburn.

Predeceased by his wife, Miriam, and a son, Edward (the late Amy), he is survived by his daughter, Ruth Canzonieri; two sons, Matthew (Bettina) and Michael; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services were held Oct. 27 with arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton.
