Rabbi Angela Buchdahl in MetroWest

Last week, the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ hosted a program with Rabbi Angela Buchdahl at the Aidekman Jewish Community Campus in Whippany. Rabbi Buchdahl is the senior rabbi at Manhattan’s Central Synagogue and the first Asian American (and first Korean American) to be ordained as a rabbi or invested as a cantor in North America.

Rabbi Buchdahl recently published a memoir, “Heart of a Stranger.”

Rabbis Amy Small of the Morristown Jewish Center and Laurence Groffman of Temple Sholom of West Essex co-moderated the discussion. Questions were provided by attendees and one non-attendee, Rabbi Elka Abrahamson, the Wexner Foundation president, who encouraged and inspired Rabbi Buchdahl on her path to the rabbinate.

The program ended with Rabbi Buchdahl singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
