Seniors learn how to avoid scams

Communities First Initiative, the Jewish Community Housing Corporation of Metropolitan New Jersey, and Valley Bank presented a program, How to Avoid Scams, Frauds and Identity Theft, to seniors at the JCHC’s B’nai B’rith Federation House in South Orange.

CFI is offering the bilingual financial education presentation throughout the state, in response to the huge increase in the numbers of senior citizens who have been victimized by scams, frauds, and identity theft. It’s part of Project Thrive, a CFI program that serves and empowers low- and moderate-income seniors and families by providing education and direct services that promote healthy lifestyles, financial stability, and community belonging.

“We are pleased to be partnering with the Communities First Initiative and Valley to educate our senior residents about the dangers posed by senior scams, frauds and identity theft and how they can best protect themselves,” Harold Colton-Max, the Jewish Community Housing Corporation of Metropolitan New Jersey’s CEO, said.

“Engaging with our communities in raising awareness, sharing knowledge, and providing resources, to help individuals identify and protect themselves from potential fraud, scams, and identity theft, is a top priority for the bank,” Kaitlyn Schillizzi, Valley Bank’s senior vice president for corporate social responsibility, said. “We are here as a trusted resource to provide support and guidance for our communities and their constituents.”
