Sheldon Eisenberg

Sheldon Eisenberg, 92, of Short Hills died May 14, 2017. Born in Newark, he lived in Millburn, and in Maplewood from 1960 to 1975 before moving to Short Hills in 1975.

Mr. Eisenberg was the co-owner of Northeast Sporting Goods, a sales representative company in the metropolitan New York area for various manufacturers of sporting goods from 1968 to 1990, when he retired. 

He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from New York University in 1950.

He served in World War II in the U.S. Navy as a storekeeper second class on the destroyer Caution and the mine sweeper, Earle B. Hall. He received the Good Conduct, the American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific Theater, and Victory medals. 

He was a member of B’nai B’rith Millburn-Short Hills Lodge and the Maplewood Men’s Club. He also was a volunteer at the Millburn Public Library and an avid tennis player. 

Predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Leah (Benatar), he is survived by three sons, Robert (Daisy) of Cool, Calif., Paul (Donna Ruth) of Morris Plains, and Richard Louis (Erika) of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; and four grandchildren. Services were held May 18 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
