Springfield shul celebrates at dinner
Congregation Israel of Springfield recently celebrated its 51st annual dinner of reflection and community pride. As the shul’s most important annual fundraiser, the dinner plays a vital role in supporting the programs, services, and vibrant communal life in Springfield.
Under the leadership of Rav Chaim and Lea Marcus, the evening united members and friends to honor volunteers for their dedication to the community. Dr. Josh Smilow was the program emcee.
Daniella and Ben Hoffer, the guests of honor, earned the Rabbi Israel E. Turner Memorial award, the highest recognition, which recognizes shul members whose leadership and commitment have a lasting impact on the congregation. As pillars of the Springfield community, the Hoffers have played an integral role in shaping and strengthening Jewish life both locally and beyond, continuing the legacy of Ben’s parents, Emmy and David a”h, who were longtime CIS members. Ben, a past president of Congregation Israel of Springfield, has been involved in many communal and national Jewish organizations, and Daniella has been a devoted leader within the community and the sisterhood.
Jessica and Dr. Noam Zeffren are the Young Leadership awardee. The honor recognizes emerging leaders whose dedication and enthusiasm are helping shape the future of the congregation. The couple demonstrates leadership, kindness, and liveliness to encourage peer participation.
Rachel Beer earned with the Aishet Chayil award, a recognition given to a woman who embodies strength, compassion, and devotion to family and community.
Dr. Moshe Rosenwein received the Edward Konigsberg Memorial award, which recognizes members whose consistent service and dedication help sustain the day-to-day life of the shul. He is known for his Torah leining and willingness to step forward whenever needed.
The evening also celebrated Eva Warshaw, recipient of the Joseph Tammam Memorial Youth Community Service Scholarship award. The honor recognizes a high school senior who demonstrates responsibility to community and a promising future of continued involvement.
