Stanley Bloom
Stanley Bloom, 87, of Bridgewater died Oct. 22, 2011. Born and raised in Plainfield, he moved to Bridgewater in 1976.
Dr. Bloom was employed as a theoretical research physicist for RCA Laboratories in Princeton for over 30 years.
He graduated from Plainfield High School and received a BS degree from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, and a PhD from Yale University.
He was very active in Jewish education in Plainfield, serving on the board of the Plainfield Hebrew Institute. In 1966, while on a sabbatical with his family in England, he discovered that his family tree included numerous British roots. This year abroad began a 40-year excursion into the research of his genealogy, which was historically documented in “The Szklaniewicz Family Tree.” He was able to archive the existence of more than 2,100 descendants, of whom 1,600 were still living. Many of these relatives met for the first time during one of several family reunions held in the Catskills and in Israel.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Miriam Finkel Bloom; three sons, David of Manhattan, Michael of Chester Township, Pa., and Jonathan of Fairfax Station, Va.; his daughter, Deborah Hercky of Martinsville; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Sylvia Anklowitz of Florida and Marilyn Vos of Franklin Township.
Services were held Oct. 23 with arrangements by Higgins Home for Funerals, Plainfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish National Fund, New York.
