Steven Simkowitz
Steven B. Simkowitz, 64, of Union died Feb. 20, 2013. Born in Newark, he lived in Irvington, Union, and then West Orange before returning to Union, where he resided for 32 years.
Mr. Simkowitz, considered one of the top 100 hair colorists in the United States, had been a hair colorist for 34 years before retiring. His most recent position was at Dieci in Livingston. A member of the Coiffures Guild, he taught classes at L’Oreal and Wella, both in New York City, and had mentored and instructed up-and-coming colorists/stylists in the industry.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo (Del Vecchio); his son, Jon; and a sister, Renee.
Services were held Feb. 24 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to General Israel Orphan’s Home for Girls, 132 Nassau St., New York, NY 10038.
