Artist-in-residence weekend in Scotch Plains
Singer-songwriter Naomi Less will be the artist-in-residence at Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains from January 30 to 31. The weekend is open to the community.
Ms. Less is the co-founder, ritual leader, and associate director of Lab/Shul in Manhattan. She is known for her innovative approaches to prayer and Torah. She also hosts “Jewish Women Rock” on Jewish Rock Radio.
On January 30, Ms. Less will lead services at 6 p.m., with Shabbat Shira and Tu B’Shevat themes. A Shabbat dinner follows at 7. She will lead Shabbat morning services, with song, meditation, and an interactive Torah reading. A kiddush lunch follows at 11:45 a.m., at no cost, with a Lunch & Learn. The weekend ends at 7 p.m. with a melaveh malkah concert, refreshments, musical Havdalah, and participatory concert with Naomi and her band.
