Chabad day to honor all women
CHABAD OF WESTERN Monmouth County will offer “Facing Life with Positivity, Purpose, & Faith,” its Jewish Women’s Symposium and brunch, on Sunday, March 3, at the Radisson Hotel in Freehold.
Guest speaker will be Judge Rachel Freier, who has served as a New York City judge — and is the country’s first chasidic woman to hold public office. She also became a paramedic and founded Ezras Nashim, the first female volunteer ambulance corps in Brooklyn. One of her missions, she said, is to prove to girls they can be “devotedly religious and not have to compromise their standards to be successful in the business or professional world.”
Karen Koller of Monroe will be honored with the Eishet Chayil (Woman of Valor) award. Following her retirement after 27 years as a teacher, Koller became a volunteer and involved parent with Chabad’s Friendship Circle, which provides support to youngsters with special needs and their families. Jonathan, the middle of her three sons, is a participant in the group’s Young Adult Division (YAD); she wanted, she said, “to give my time to something that I love.” Keller also volunteers and studies at other Chabad programs.
At the event, the memory of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson, the wife of the late Lubavitcher Rebbe, will also be honored.
Couvert is $54, with many sponsorship levels available. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. for the gift-basket auction, and the program will begin at 11:30. Reservations are required; call 732-972-3687 or visit chabadwmc.org/jwdrsvp.
