Challah bake to produce hundreds of loaves
HUNDREDS OF JEWISH women are expected to gather at the Radisson Hotel in Freehold, on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. for the Mega Challah Bake hosted by the Chabad of Western Monmouth County, Chabad Jewish Center-Toms River, and Chabad of Jackson. The centers are affiliated with Rabbinical College of America in Morristown, the N.J. headquarters of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement.
The women-only event will feature a program from 6:30 to 9 p.m., refreshments, and entertainment by local talent.
Baking challah is a mitzvah for women, said Chana’le Wolosow of Chabad of Western Monmouth County. “When a woman prepares challah,” she said, “all channels are open for her to ask for the blessings she needs in her life and in others’ lives.”
Sara Schapiro of Chabad of WMC said, “There is so much power when so many women are baking challah together.”
The tables will be set with premeasured ingredients at each place. Each woman will mix her own dough, wait for it to rise, and then learn how to separate and shape the dough into two braided challahs. The loaves will be taken home for baking. Attendees will also prepare chocolate babka.
Tickets cost $30 before Nov. 1, $36 thereafter. Donations over $360 will
be acknowledged. Sponsorships are available in the following amounts:
$72, $180, $360, $500, and $1,000. Reservations are required (with an opportunity to add names to be displayed during a moment of silence during prayer); visit ChallahBakeNJ.com.
