Last week, family, friends, and members of Congregation Shomrei Torah Ohel Yosef Yitzchok Bris Avrohom Shul gathered to pay tribute to honor and remember Danny Kahane, the shul’s founder and builder.

Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky made a siyum, and Danny Kahane’s son, Jason, recited the Kaddish and shared remarks and memories of his father.

Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky, whose relationship with Danny Kahane spanned decades, spoke about his personality, humility, and charity, and how he bought the Bris Avrohom shul to fulfill his promise to God that he would one day buy a shul where all Jews will be invited and welcome.

He said that Mr. Kahane took pride in watching Bris Avrohom flourish and how it became an open door to all Jews, no matter their affiliation, Torah knowledge, or financial status. He also told a story about how the Lubavitcher rebbe, for whom Danny had the utmost dedication and respect, told Danny that when “Moshiach comes, many shuls from chutz l’aretz will move to Eretz Yisroel, his shul included.”

Rabbi Kanelsky told the attendees to emulate one of Mr. Kahane’s beautiful hobbies. Danny would always greet every member of the shul with a warm greeting every morning. To Danny, every person attending shul deserved a greeting. Rabbi Kanelsky told attendees to continue his spirit and display the love of Israel that Danny taught by example.
