Farbrengen at Bris Avrohom

The Bris Avrohom Center, Congregation Shomrei Torah Ohel Yosef Yitzchok, held its Yud Tes Kislev farbrengen. Lubavitch chasidim celebrate on this day, which it calls the new year of chassidus. The celebration commemorated the 227th anniversary of the liberation of the first Lubavitcher rebbe, Shneur Zalman of Liadi, author of the Tanya and the Shulchan Aruch, who was imprisoned in St. Petersburg, Russia, for spreading chassidus.

Rabbi Noson Gurary, the executive director of Chabad House Centers in upstate New York, explained the significance of the day and the importance of learning chassidus daily. He also told stories about his father, Rabbi Schneur Zalman Gurary, who was named after the Alter rebbe.
