Jewish Family Service is looking for volunteers

The Jewish Family Service of MetroWest NJ needs community members in Essex and Morris counties to make a difference in the lives of older adults, caregivers, and children through its volunteer opportunities. JFS is dedicated to strengthening individuals and families through social services and community support.

Volunteers provide conversation, companionship, and connection to people who need it most. “These programs provide an opportunity for volunteers to build meaningful connections, while addressing critical needs like isolation, food access, and caregiver burnout,” said Taylor Ruszczyk, JFS director of volunteer services. “Whether you have one hour a week or more to give, your time can make a lasting impact.”

Opportunities include:

Friendly Visiting & Tessie’s Touch, to brighten the lives of isolated older adults through one-on-one visits with companionship in the home or joining a JFS client on outings like trips to botanical gardens, movies, or meals out. JFS covers expenses. Email Kathy at kmikula@jfsmetrowest.org or call (973) 637-1726.

Reading Buddies, where volunteers 55+ read to pre-kindergarteners to third-graders at Speedway Academy in Newark. One-hour weekly commitment, October through May. Email Julie at jcramer-le@jfsmetrowest.org or call (973) 637-1761.

Shop & Drop, to assist homebound seniors by grocery shopping and delivering food.

Caregiver Respite, giving caregivers of loved ones with cognitive or chronic illness a break. Email Mei at mmoyer@jfsmetrowest.org or call (973) 637-1762.
