JVS honors Eric Witmondt of Woodmont Properties
Jewish Vocational Services of MetroWest’s Taste & Toast returns on May 13, at 5:30 p.m., to honor Eric Witmondt of Englewood, and his company, Woodmont Properties. The program will be at Green Brook Country Club in West Caldwell.
“For 85 years now, JVS’s highest priority has been helping people help themselves,” Mr. Witmondt said. “To be part of that mission, to provide support and nurture that goal, has been a great joy. The agency has numerous avenues to help people overcome barriers to employment. The Center for Economic Opportunity, established in 2021, which provides job skills training for low-to-moderate income individuals, is particularly meaningful to me. To watch someone overcome barriers and gain meaningful employment is to see JVS’s mission in action. I am proud to be part of it.”
As a member of JVS’s board of trustees, Mr. Witmondt has helped propel JVS through the pandemic and laid the strategic groundwork for a sustainable future. “Eric was integral to the 2021 establishment of JVS’s Center for Economic Opportunity, our workforce development program, devoting many, many hours of his time, taking the idea from concept stage to implementation,” Michael Andreas, JVS’s CEO, said. “It is thanks to his efforts that 200+ people have the training they need to begin careers as pharmacy technicians, home health aides, apartment maintenance technicians, and production technicians. For his forward-thinking ideas, innovation, and dedication to JVS’s mission, we honor him at this year’s Taste & Toast.”
As CEO of Woodmont Properties, Mr. Witmondt leads the New Jersey-based real estate company, which acquires, entitles, develops, builds, manages, markets, and invests in luxury multifamily, mixed-use, industrial, and senior housing, as well as recreational facilities. As part of Woodmont Properties culture, Woodmont Wish was established to support Woodmont employees in times of need and charitable organizations in the communities where Woodmont operates. JVS is a primary beneficiary.
In addition to honoring Mr. Witmondt, JVS is celebrating its 85th anniversary. It was founded in 1939 to help Jewish refugees find work in the United States. Since its founding in Newark as the Community Employment Service, JVS has been committed to helping people help themselves through innovative career counseling, pre-professional training programs, student loans and grants, and more. Over the years, its mission has expanded to help any and all people who have barriers to employment related to age, ability, language, education, job skills training, immigrant status, and other socioeconomic factors. JVS has adapted and expanded its services because they are always on the lookout for new opportunities to serve a changing world. The Center for Economic Opportunity was just one of those expansions.
