Monmouth County kids ‘Touch a Truck’ or two

The Touch A Truck program touched 100 kids, who got an important — and fun — lesson in public safety at Temple Beth Ahm in Aberdeen, Temple Shaari Emeth in Manalapan, and Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Monmouth County in Marlboro.

The Aug. 3 program was sponsored by the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office and the Jewish Federation in the Heart of New Jersey in partnership with the three municipalities. The Sheriff’s Office Mobile Command Unit and a county Public Works dump truck, joined by fire, police, and emergency vehicles from each township, stopped at each location. 

Sheriff Shaun Golden said it was his “pleasure to once again support the Jewish Federation in the Heart of NJ when it comes to promoting public safety awareness.” The goal, he said, is to educate children about the safety vehicles and other large equipment and have them meet public servants “who protect and serve their communities.” 

Each child received a goodie bag, PJ Library items, a federation information card, and crayons and a 911 coloring book from the Sheriff’s Office.

“This is a great opportunity for our young people in the Jewish community to engage with members of law enforcement and learn how first responders keep our communities safe,” said federation executive director Keith Krivitzky.
