Musician, scion of local clergy, to give eclectic concert
AVI WISNIA — acclaimed singer/songwriter, son of Rabbi Eric Wisnia of Congregation Beth Chaim in Princeton Junction, and grandson of renowned Cantor David Wisnia — will perform with his band at Adath Israel Congregation in Lawrenceville on Sunday, June 3,
at 3 p.m.
The Yardley, Pa., resident plays an eclectic mix of original songs and inventive covers, inspired by Brazilian bossa nova, acoustic American folk, 1950s West Coast jazz, and contemporary pop. Touring in support of his debut album, “Something New,” Wisnia is performing around the world — from New York City to Washington, D.C., Warsaw; and Rio de Janeiro. His latest single, “Sky Blue Sky,” was recorded via satellite between Philadelphia and Brazil, winning recognition from the Philadelphia Songwriters Project and MidAtlantic Songwriters Competition. Bucks Happening Magazine designated him 2017 Musician of the Year. Wisnia has given a TED talk, “The Nature and Nurture of Bossa Nova,” and performed with The Moth storytellers.
Critics have said he “represents the best in the singer-songwriter genre: a great voice, an exciting stage presence, and great songs,” and that he is “startlingly clever, lyrically brilliant, completely refreshing.”
The cost for sponsors is $118, which includes two reserved seats, the CD “Something New,” and recognition in the concert program. Tickets for reserved seating cost $36, $18 for general admission, $9 for six- to 18-year-olds, free for children under six. Visit aviwisniaadathisraelnj.eventbrite.com or call 609-896-4977.
