New “Chicken Soup for the Soul” book features Randolph writer’s story
Robert Grayson of Randolph has written a story about his cat, Raisins, that is in the new book “Chicken Soup for the Soul: Lessons Learned from My Cat.” The book was released in February.
Mr. Grayson’s story, “Socked,” chronicles the adventures of his beautiful long-haired calico cat, who hatched a scheme to banish two Scottish terriers from her Randolph home.
Mr. Grayson, who grew up in Brooklyn, was a member of the Mount Freedom Jewish Center in Randolph. Robert’s wife, Diana, is a co-president of the West Morris section of the National Council of Jewish Women. They coauthored a book called “Jewish Threads: A Hands-On Guide to Stitching Spiritual Intention into Jewish Fabric Crafts.’
An award-winning former daily newspaper reporter, Mr. Grayson is the author of many young adult books. This is his third story to appear as part of the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” franchise.
“Chicken Soup for the Soul: Lessons Learned from My Cat” includes 101 stories about all the ways in which cats enrich our lives, become part of our families, and make us better people. Royalties from the book go to American Humane, founded in 1877, and committed to ensuring the safety, welfare, and well-being of all animals, as well as strengthening the bond between animals and people.
In keeping with Chicken Soup for the Soul’s support for pet adoption and shelters, the stories chosen for the book from thousands of submissions are not only inspirational and fun, but also feature rescued cats, including black cats and senior cats, the categories of cats that are often left behind at shelters. It’s part of Chicken Soup for the Soul’s mission to make people think “shelter first” when they’re considering adding a new pet to their families.
Robert Grayson’s story is featured on “The Chicken Soup for the Soul Podcast with Amy Newmark,” and called Remarkably Naughty Cats. The book is available in bookstores and online.
