Newspaper editor to be scholar-in-residence in Morris Plains
Andrew Silow-Carroll of Teaneck will be the scholar-in-residence for Adath Shalom in Morris Plains on March 15 and 16. The weekend theme is “We’re Still Here: Jewish Resilience and Identity.”
On Friday, March 15, after Shabbat dinner, his topic will be, “Casting Doubt: When Non-Jews Play Jews on TV and Film, What Does it Say About Jewish Identity?” During Shabbat services on Saturday, his talk will focus on “Israel and America: How Did We Get Here and Where Do We Go From Here?” At 7:45 p.m., after Havdalah and dessert, his talk with video clips and a discussion will be “Oy! Don’t Ask! How Jews Find Strength Through Humor.”
Andrew Silow-Carroll, the former editor-in-chief of the New Jersey Jewish News, is the New York Jewish Week’s editor at large and the managing editor for ideas at the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
