NJ Jewish Bar Association installs officers
More than 200 people attended the newly formed Jewish Bar Association of New Jersey’s first board installation, held in Roseland on May 9. JBAR, the first Jewish legal group of its kind in the state, will advocate for Jewish causes, for the rule of law, and on behalf of Israel among the legal community and the general public. It will be headed by legal leaders from across the state.
Michael B. Kaplan, chief judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey, addressed the gathering, as did its new president, Joseph H. Lemkin, a shareholder with Stark & Stark P.C. of Hamilton. Paul J. Vichness, a former New Jersey Superior Court judge, now with Mandelbaum Barrett, P.C., of Roseland, swore in the new officers. Along with Mr. Lemkin, local board members include Eliana Bae, a partner with Fox Rothschild, which has an office in Morristown; Edward Dauber, a partner with Greenberg Dauber Epstein & Tucker, Newark; Richard Kelin, a partner with Goldstein Kelin LLC, Livingston; and Victoria Rivkin, 3g Talent Advisors LLC in South Orange, who also is a member of the Rutgers Hillel board.
Susan Wernick, chief marketing officer of Bederson LLP in Fairfield, and David Rosenberg, New Jersey Business Alliance’s executive director, are JBAR’s co-executive directors. They are non-voting members of the board.
The officers include president-elect Avi Kelin, a partner with PEM Law of West Orange; secretary Nancy Isaacson, a partner with Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis LLP in Woodbridge; and treasurer Jason Sobel, a partner with Sills Cummis & Gross PC in Newark.
“We never imagined that the idea for JBAR, hatched just last fall, would take off so quickly,” Mr. Lemkin said. “Unbeknownst to us, there has been pent-up demand for an organization that will represent New Jersey’s thousands of Jewish lawyers to the legal, business, and general communities. We plan to play an active role in the legal, political, and business life of our beloved Garden State.”
