One of the tour leaders, Gary A. Rendsburg, is a professor in the Jewish studies department at Rutgers University.

GARY A. RENDSBURG, a noted Bible scholar and professor at Rutgers University, and Dudu Cohen, an Israeli archaeologist, will lead a biblical archaeology tour of Israel June 1-12.

“Jewish history begins in Israel where the Bible was written, and today’s archaeological sites reveal so much of our ancient past,” Rendsburg said.

Highlights of the 10-day tour include Masada, Ein Gedi, Caesaria, Beit She’an, Megiddo, Bet Alpha, and more. In addition, Rendsburg will lead learning sessions on topics such as “The Ancient Jewish Sects: Sadducees, Pharisees, Essenes, and Zealots,” “The History of Jerusalem,” and “The Maximalists and Minimalists in the Study of Ancient Israel.”

Cohen, an archaeologist and licensed tour guide, has a doctorate in Biblical Studies.

The tour, limited to 18 participants, is organized by Jewish Explorations, a boutique travel company based in Princeton. More information is available at jewish-explorations.com/biblical-archaeology-in-israel-2020.
