‘Volunteer Boot Camp’ offers adults opportunities to serve
THIS SUMMER, the Center for Volunteerism at Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ is offering adults “Volunteer Boot Camp,” a series of weekly volunteer opportunities beginning Monday, June 23, and continuing through Sunday, Aug. 17. The program is cosponsored by JCC MetroWest’s Mitzvah Moments.
Volunteerism is integral to federation’s mission of fulfilling the Jewish value of tikun olam, repairing the world, said Center for Volunteerism chair Maxine Schwartz of Westfield. “It’s as simple as saying ‘yes — yes, I’ll show up. I’ll help. And I’ll bring a friend. I want to volunteer.’”
The volunteer projects range from harvesting on an urban farm to rebuilding Union Beach, a community still struggling to recover from Hurricane Sandy, to swimming with teens with special needs.
Details and registration are available at jfedgmw.org/volunteer or by calling Stacey Brown at 973-929-3027.
