A RECENT EMAIL scam has impacted a number of Greater MetroWest synagogues. Congregants have received emails claiming to be from the rabbi and seeking a response. After responding, the email recipient is then asked to send money via gift cards to a fictious Gmail account made to look like it came from the rabbi’s legitimate address.
Under no circumstance should anyone respond to unsolicited email without independent corroboration from the rabbi or synagogue administrator.
