Greater MetroWest NJ receives Critical Supports Grant
JEWISH FEDERATION of Greater MetroWest NJ is among six federations across the country that have received a Critical Supports Grant from Jewish Federations of North America’s Center for Advancing Holocaust Survivor Care. When combined with matching funds, this award, totaling $300,000, will go toward GMW federation efforts to prevent and resolve emergencies among survivors. Members of its Leadership Council are charged with assessing the services currently offered to survivors and devising ways to address unmet needs. All services are to be delivered with a focus on the needs of each individual.
The council first identified the need to locate survivors previously unknown to the community and informing them of services and how to maximize reparations. Council members acknowledged the importance of combating social isolation among survivors and of alleviating pressures for caregivers. The council will also seek ways to help survivors cover otherwise unreimbursed expenses related to health care.
The council’s members are community leaders and professionals from federation and its partner agencies with expertise in caring for seniors, particularly Holocaust survivors, and include a survivor and family caregivers of survivors.
