Intro to Judaism offered throughout NJ

The New Jersey Rabbinical Assembly will offer a comprehensive Introduction to Judaism Class at three locations — Morristown, Hoboken, and Marlboro.

The Morristown class will take place on Tuesdays, beginning Oct. 20, 7-9:30 p.m. In Hoboken, classes will be on Wednesdays, 7-9:30 p.m., beginning Oct. 14. In Marlboro, the course will begin on Sunday, Oct. 18, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

The course is oriented toward a wide range of individuals, including potential Jews by choice and their spouses/significant others, non-Jews raising Jewish children, and born Jews who wish to learn more about their heritage. Learning basic Hebrew reading is part of the course. 

In addition to the major holidays, prayer, Shabbat, and the Holocaust, among the topics to be included are: Dimensions of Jewish Identity: Behaving, Believing, Belonging; Introduction to Rabbinic Judaism; Jewish Perspectives on God; Judaism & Christianity: A Comparative Look; The Role of Law and Commandment in Judaism; Kashrut: The Jewish Dietary Laws; Marriage, Divorce, & Jewish Perspectives on Sexuality; The End of Life: Dying, Death, Mourning & Afterlife; Contemporary Moral Issues: Jewish Perspectives on Bioethics; The Land of Israel & Ancient Judaism: The Biblical and Rabbinic Background; Women and Judaism; The Four Streams of Contemporary Judaism; Judaism in America: Challenges of the Melting Pot; Jewish Perspectives on Conversion; and Zionism and the Modern State.

Tuition is $545/individual, $595/couple. Extracurricular activities and events offered through the program may carry additional costs. Tuition is nonrefundable once classes are in session.
