Steven Monetti, who works at Global Mark Security in Essex County, was honored by Scotch Plains Mayor Joshua Losardo at an October 24 ceremony, for his life-saving actions. Mr. Monetti received a Scotch Plains Township proclamation issued by Mayor Losardo and the Township Council.

Mr. Monetti, who has been in security for 23 years and comes from a law enforcement family, is a security guard at Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains. During Shabbat services at CBI on June 14, a guest at a bat mitzvah began choking. Mr. Monetti performed the Heimlich maneuver, clearing the obstruction, preventing what could have been a much more serious outcome.

The guests at the Scotch Plains honorary ceremony included Tony Spina, the owner of the security company, and Eddie Hernandez, its office manager; Rabbi Howard Tilman of Congregation Beth Israel, and Aviva Tillis, CBI’s executive director; and Suzanne Levy, a New Jersey Jewish News staff member.
