Princeton Hillel receives educational vision award

The Center for Jewish Life/Hillel at Princeton University was one of eight Hillels — the only one in New Jersey — to receive the Joseph Meyerhoff Award for Jewish Educational Vision, one of the 2014 Drive to Excellence Awards, from Hillel International.

The Meyerhoff award is given to a Hillel that has taken innovative steps to achieve the vision “to inspire every Jewish student to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life, learning, and Israel.”

The presentation was made during the inaugural Hillel International: Global Assembly, an all-staff conference held Dec. 10 at the Rosen Plaza in Orlando, Fla.

According to executive director Rabbi Julie Roth, CJL developed a strategic plan in 2010 to transform its educational vision and practices, with the aim of integrating Judaism with students’ interests and using Jewish wisdom as a spark for conversations about the “big questions.” As part of its plan, Hillel invested in professional development for its educational team and created a metric system for gathering data and measuring the impact of its educational programs. 

Rafi Rone, vice president of Jewish and Israel initiatives at the Meyerhoff Family Charitable Funds said, “As a model for all Hillels, Hillel at Princeton University truly exemplifies Jewish learning.”
