Talking about the Book of Lamentations

Dr. Alan Cooper, Jewish Theological Seminary professor emeritus of Bible and Jewish studies, led a study session on the Book of Lamentations on erev Tisha B’Av, July 22, at Temple Beth Shalom of Livingston. Tisha B’Av is the most solemn day of mourning on the Jewish calendar. It marks major historic tragedies, most notably the destruction of both the First Temple by the Babylonians, and the Second Temple by the Romans in Jerusalem. The service was held jointly with Congregation Beth-El of South Orange, B’nai Shalom of West Orange, Congregation B’nai Israel of Milburn, and Ohab Shalom Congregation of South Orange.
